The Early Rider bike teaches kids how to balance from day one.

Here’s a product I have not tried but am considering for Mini: the Early Rider training bike comes without pedals and with an extra fat rear tire so that kids have to learn how to balance right away. Mini is at the stage where he loves pushing himself around on a tricycle, but he doesn’t really understand the pedal concept yet. I think this might be a cool product for him to try, because it will allow him to push himself around without hitting himself with the pedals, and he can learn the whole balance thing while he figures out the pedaling concept.

The bike comes in three different sizes based on both the kid’s age and the weight of the bike itself: 1) the lite series (for ages “pre- 2-4,” 2) Classic for 2-5, and 3) Evolution for 3.5 to 6 years. Available online at Tyke Rider.
